Jean Joseph Benjamin Constant, commonly known as Benjamin-Constant, was a French painter and writer born on June 10, 1845, and died on May 26, 1902. He was known for his Orientalist paintings, which depicted scenes from North Africa, particularly Algeria, where he spent a significant amount of time. Constant's works often romanticized the exoticism of the Orient, capturing its vibrant colors and rich culture. Constant's legacy lies in his significant contributions to the Orientalist art movement of the 19th century.
