18th century French Nevers pottery soupière

Finding a piece of 18th century pottery is always an exciting discovery—the depth of its history, and the rich story of its creation and use over hundreds of years is showcased on every inch of it. Often pottery from this century has been salvaged or “rescued” and it is common for these pieces to have signs of distress and weathering, including chips, cracks and repairs—this is what adds to the romance and intrigue of a piece of this age. 

Though it does not have any hallmarks, the creation of this particular soupière has been attributed to the French manufacturing city of Nevers based on its design, colours and shape.
