antique English flow blue set of three large platters

This set of 3 plates are stamped "Ventnor, England" and carry a fascinating history rooted in the rich tradition of English pottery. Ventnor refers to a small coastal town located on the Isle of Wight, off the southern coast of England. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the city became a hub for pottery production, known for its fine ceramic wares.

During the late 1830s-1840s, a novel type of blue printed pottery emerged in the market and gained widespread popularity. Referred to as flow blue, its distinctive feature involved allowing the blue printed pattern to seamlessly merge with the glaze while undergoing the firing process.

These plates gained popularity for their quality and craftsmanship, finding their way into households both in England and across the globe. 

While the specific details of the Ventnor pottery industry's decline are not widely documented, the legacy of these plates lives on as collectibles and antique artifacts. Today, they serve as reminders of the skill and artistry that once flourished in Ventnor, England, preserving a piece of the town's pottery heritage for generations to come.

Please note the wear and small imperfections of these plates as pictured. You can see a small crack, wear to the finish, and some discoloration to parts of the plates.
