Prior to the invention of photography, paper cut silhouette portraits rose in popularity during the nineteenth century in England and Europe as a way to capture the likeness of family members forever and continued to be done into the 20th century.

This particular pair of husband and wife portraits features  lovely crisp details on the black card, and both are framed in original gilt carved wood frames.
