We were thrilled to find this one of a kind, lovingly hand crafted antique marriage chest. In Central and Eastern Europe, there is a wonderful tradition of marriage chests: wooden chests, painted beautifully and kept in the best room in the house. Inside would be a dowry, usually household textiles, made over years by the women of the house. These chests would be commissioned from craftsmen skilled in their making as soon as a wedding date was fixed.

This gorgeous example features hand carved details, and an ebony painted base with hand painted florals that has all been softly worn and mellowed over time. A beautifully treasured and well-loved piece that is ready for a special place in your home.
