Rare 19th century French bistro tip saucer marked “2f,” (2 francs) hand painted and stamped WG & Co Limoges. Made from glazed porcelain with delicate detailing, this saucer was originally used in cafés and bars to show the cost of a drink—typically placed with the order and brought to the counter when it was time to settle up.
The inscription "PRE CATELAN" on a ribbon motif, refers to the Pré Catelan, a renowned restaurant and event venue located in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, where this was once used!
Produced by William Guerin & Co., a respected Limoges porcelain maker active from the 1870s to early 1900s, known for creating high-quality porcelain both for domestic use and export. A small but telling piece of daily life in Belle Époque France.
