We couldn't resist this art deco french brass and lucite brooch, secured with a trombone backing. This piece was made using reverse carving, also known as intaglio carving, a meticulous jewelry-making technique where a design is intricately carved into the underside of a gemstone or material, creating a 3D, recessed image that appears raised when viewed from the front. Skilled artisans use specialized tools to carefully sculpt the desired motif. This method is particularly popular with materials like gemstones, glass, or shells and has been employed throughout history to create exquisite jewelry pieces, signet rings, and cameos.
Sourced from a brocante in Marseille.
