From "Inspirations: 80 Motifs en Couleur," by Adrien Jacques Garcelon, Paris: Ch. Massin & Cie, n.d. (circa 1930). Garcelon was a French decorative painter and designer of the 1920s and 1930s known for his art deco and jazz-age wallpaper and textile patterns.

These rare types of prints are known "Pochoir" (French for "stencil") which is a type of screen printing in which the outlines of the design are produced first, then brilliant color is hand-applied through a series of stencils.

Pochoirs were used in fashion, patterns, wallpaper, architectural design, and book illustration.

Garcelon was a master printmaker and wallpaper designer. His "Inspirations" designs are typical of the Art Deco style of 1920s and early 1930s, a style used by many French artists including Picasso, Leger, and Seguy. Garcelon, along with Paul Follot, Henri Stephany and Edouard Benedictus, were among the prominent French designers of that time.
