turn of the century extra large French hand forged copper ladle
Exquisitely crafted antique copper ladle, hand made by an artisan coppersmith in the early 1900s. It is a wonderful large size, and has a gorgeous hammered finish.
Often ladles of this size were made for “community catering”. Many villages in France and Italy have community dinners where large portions of food are prepared, using large pots, for all of the community to or village to enjoy together. Tables would be set out in piazzas and central areas of the village and all would sit down together. A ladle such as this would be used to serve out each portion.
A beautiful example of French copper and a lovely piece of French culinary history.
