antique chromolithograph, “cheval au galop”
French chromolithograph, likely produced at the the turn of the century. An absolutely stunning example of “German style” chromolithography, which was done in order to replicate the look of an oil painting. Several layers of thick, oil based ink would have been applied to the paper to create the texture and appearance of an oil on canvas. The result is an incredibly “alive” image, that perfectly captures the horse in motion with the sunlight shimmering on its body. Stamped by lithography company, though illegible.
In good antique condition, with some slight wear along the edges, light foxing, and light crackling on the front (all pictured) which does not affect the integrity of the piece.
