"Portrait of a man" by Raphael is a masterful example of High Renaissance portraiture, capturing the dignity and complexity of its subject through subtle expression and precise detail. The man, possibly a member of the Medici court, is depicted with lifelike textures, from his skin to his clothing.
Interestingly, this antique print was originally attributed to artist Hans Holbein. The attribution to Holbein likely arose due to similarities in their styles, particularly in the detailed rendering of the subject’s features and the somber, dignified atmosphere of the portrait. However, further study of the techniques and characteristics more aligned with Raphael's body of work led scholars to reassign the painting to him.
