During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the decorative process of “champlevé” (an enamelling technique in the same family as “cloissone”) was incredibly popular.
Instead of brass and enamel, these gorgeous and delicate frames are made of pressed paper—not commonly seen—with just as much attention to detail with each tiny “enamelled” space. The colours are rich yet muted, and have retained their integrity over time. Gorgeous little frames with quite a history, and ready to create a new story in your home.
Sourced from a brocante in Arles.
Sold as a pair.
