A rare and highly sought after antique French bistro change and tip dish from the late 1800s to early 1900s, beautifully crafted from glazed porcelain and hand painted details.
Originally used in French cafes and bars, tip saucers showed the price of a drink to a customer, featuring 75 French centimes. As a customary practice, this saucer would accompany the drink and would then be presented at the bar counter when the customer was ready to pay the check. Embracing its heritage, the underside has been stamped with the French maker's mark, CP & Co (Charles Pillivuyt & Co) and dates from 1850s-1910s.
Sourced from a collector's estate in Aix-en-Provence.
