These lockets were popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly among the upper classes and those prone to fainting spells.
Lockets were small enough to be worn around the neck, carried in a pocket, or attached to a chatelaine (a chain worn at the waist).
The lockets contained a small amount of smelling salts, which are a combination of ammonium carbonate and perfume. The salts were used to revive someone who had fainted or felt faint.
Beautifully crafted from 800 silver (or “European silver”) with stamped floral details, and “800” stamped on the lid.
Sourced from an estate in Aix-en-Provence.
dimensions: .75"W x 1.5"H
