This petite treasure made by Dropsy was sourced from an estate in Aix-en-Provence. One side of this gilt metal pendant features a stunning art nouveau women's face, while the other is monogrammed. This piece was likely give as a gift for a birthday or holiday.
Mostly unknown during his lifetime, Jean Baptiste Emile Drospy (1848 - 1923) appears today as an extremely appealing artist. He may be considered as the truest of religious medal makers. Dropsy was born to a family of marble sculptors but deviated from the family tradition. He began an apprenticeship as a metal engraver in Paris on the quai de Jemmapes while also attending drawing lessons. Having become an excellent engraver, he set up his own business and started modelling medals. He produced award winning works which were displayed at the “Salon des Artistes Français” around 1900.
