rare turn of the century French Napoleon III beveled glass double portrait frame and posey vase

This rare and highly unusual frame was originally meant to display “his and hers” pictures of a couple, conjoined with a little bud holder where the frames meet. While double portrait frames are not uncommon, the addition of the glass vase vial or "pipette" is incredibly rare—especially in such good condition. Many have plastic replacements, but this piece features the original glass vial, beautifully crafted with delicate details. 

The frame is crafted from gilt ormolu, with classic Napoleon III details such as the floral cornice pediments and the absolutely incredible floral details on the vase bracket. 

And of course, the stunning and heavy beveled glass panels that give this piece its iconic look. 

It can be displayed on a tabletop with an easel back, or hung on a wall by the hook on the reverse. 

An absolutely incredible heirloom piece, ready to cherish for years to come. 

Please note: while remarkably preserved, this piece does show signs of slight wear to the gilding, and has one small chip to the upper left corner of the left side glass panel.
