There is so much to love about these incredible 19th century French “os de mouton” (or “sheep bone”) chairs: the curving, fluid lines of the oak frame, the fantastic vintage striped velvet upholstery with nailhead trim, and classic chapeau de gendarme seat backs. They are bold, striking, timeless and yet feel of-the-moment.

Although these are wonderfully preserved, please note some slight surface wear to the fabric in some areas and to the walnut frame, commensurate with age. Please refer to the pictures as they also contribute to the description.

Sold individually.

NOTES:

The term “os de mouton” (or “sheep-bone” or “mutton bone”) refers to the shape of the arms and lower frame of the armchair. This example reflects the style of the Louis XIII period and the transition to more fluid forms: straight lines gave way to curves.

Os de Mouton chairs are functional as well as decorative. The best known innovation from the Louis XIII period, this quintessential French chair looks wonderful with most any style dining table and provides balance and extra seating in a room. During the 17th-century, the Os de Mouton chair filled many exquisite dining halls of the "grand chateaux" across the French countryside.

They have such great products I could not stay away. I don't live near their store so I did not expect to be able to purchase furniture online at a decent shipping rate. I was so happy to see that the shipping rate was amazing and the customer service even better. I highly recommend them and will most likely purchase from them again!
