A châtelaine (from French: “lady of the castle”) in its original form is a belt hook, worn by the lady of the castle, from which the keys of the castle were suspended. It was a form of jewelry that had its origins in practical use. Through time and innovation châtelaines came to support several chains from which accessories were suspended, such as watches, keys, seals, writing tablets, scissors, and small purses.
This petite watch would have once been hung from a chatelaine. Beautifully crafted from an etched silver case, utterly charming and incredibly rare enamel watch face in the shape of a heart, and if you open the back panel, you’ll see an unexpected detail—an engraved message, dated “Paris, 1912”.
The sweetest and prettiest little piece of history.
Please note this watch is non-functioning.
