rare 18th & 19th century French intaglio and seal collection

This impressive collection of antique intaglio and seals are a rare find.

Intaglio refers to a printmaking technique where an image is incised into a surface, inked, and then pressed onto paper, creating detailed prints with recessed lines and grooves. This particular collection of seals was made using antique French signet rings were used as a form of personal seal. They featured an engraved design, often a family crest or initials, on the bezel (the flat top of the ring).

These rings were used to create a unique impression in wax on letters, documents, or envelopes. This seal acted as a mark of authenticity and authority, ensuring that the message or document had not been tampered with during transit. Additionally, signet rings could also be a symbol of social status and heritage.

This collection also includes two royal wax seals dated 1902. These larger pieces would have been used to make a larger seal of the King and Queen.
