rare antique french advertising wine basket/pouring basket

This woven wine basket is a rare find. It was once used in a restaurant in the Provence area, and is also known as a wine pouring basket: not only could you display the wine at the table, the handle at the base allowed for pouring and the ring at the top secured around the neck of the bottle to help it stay in place while doing so. 

It features a hand painted name of the vintner on both sides, and similar to other advertising pieces like champagne buckets, the wineries would give these baskets to restaurants that distributed their wines. In this case, the vintner is “Ch Vienot” (or Charles Vienot), one of the most famous wine makers of Burgundy. 

The craftsmanship of the basket itself is incredible, and it is in excellent condition. We think it would make a great addition to a wine lover's bar or at a dinner party, perfect for displaying a good bottle.
